If your little one loves tactile play but has a tendency to put everything in their mouth, then homemade paints are easier to make than you may think. For this recipe you will need:
- ½ cup salt
- ½ cup plain flour
- ½ cup water
- Food clouring
Simply blend half a cup of flour with half a cup of salt and then add the water. Split the mixture into different bowls and add a few drops of liquid food colouring. Stir the mixture well and you are ready to go.
It’s important to note that the paint is great for allowing little ones to safely explore the sensation and activity of painting but it doesn’t make a masterpiece. When I made the paints (a couple of years back) I didn’t have enough plain flour so I mixed in cornflour and the ‘paint’ ended up a bit watery. It didn’t really matter as the boys thoroughly enjoyed using them and I didn’t need to worry about them eating the paint for once.
