On one of the rare scorching hot days we’ve had this summer we decided to make some boats to race across the paddling pool, this gave my toddler some time out of the sun whilst making the boats and then a fun thing to do with daddy when it was race time.
To make the boats we used:
- 2 egg boxes
- Paint
- 2 long kebab sticks
- Card
- Sellotape
- Glitter
- Glue
- Stickers
First I cut the egg box lids off and then got my toddler to paint the boxes.
I cut out mast shapes from the card and my toddler put glue across them and together we added the glitter. He then decorated the mast with some stickers.
Once the egg boxes were dry I cut the sharp ends off the kebab sticks and skewered it through one of the points in the egg box, I then secured it with sellotape. Together we stuck the masts onto the stick using sellotape.
I then left it to my toddler and husband to race the boats across the paddling pool and they had a great time.
Words of warning though, if your toddler is anything like mine where even the smallest thing can result in a complete melt down it’s perhaps best to warn them that the boats will eventually sink, we didn’t tell him this and that was a BIG mistake! Also don’t overload the boats with Happy Land people like my toddler did at first as the boats just sink straight away and again this may lead to a melt down/tantrum.
